How Memoari works

From signup to peace of mind in six simple steps. No jargon. Just a clear way to preserve your memories and wishes for the people you love.

📝1

Create your account

Sign up in under 60 seconds. No credit card required. Your free account includes everything you need to get started.

We collect only your name and email to create your account. Your password is hashed using bcrypt — we never store it in plain text. When building your will, we ask for your date of birth because UK wills legally require it to identify you accurately — it is encrypted, never sold, and only used to generate your will document.

⚖️2

Build your will

Our guided 8-step will builder walks you through everything — beneficiaries, assets, guardians for children, specific gifts, and final wishes.

The builder takes around 15 minutes. You can save and return at any point. When complete, you can download a legally formatted PDF ready for signing in accordance with the Wills Act 1837 (England and Wales).

🔐3

Fill your vault

Everything is encrypted with AES-256 before it reaches our servers. Not even Memoari staff can read your vault contents.

Store documents such as: property deeds, mortgage statements, insurance policies, bank statements, pension documents, marriage or birth certificates, passport copies, and medical directives. Store passwords and digital accounts including: email accounts (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo), social media (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, Snapchat), streaming services (Netflix, Spotify, Apple TV), online banking and investment accounts, cryptocurrency wallets and exchange accounts, PayPal and payment apps, Amazon, eBay and shopping accounts, and cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud). Log financial assets such as: bank accounts, savings accounts, ISAs, pension funds, stocks and shares, property, vehicles, cryptocurrency, and business interests. Record personal messages including: written letters, video messages, voice notes, and final instructions for the people you love — delivered at exactly the right moment.

🤝4

Choose your contacts

Designate trusted unlock contacts — the people who can request access to your vault when the time comes. You can assign different contacts to different parts of your vault:

Your solicitor or executor might receive your will and financial asset log. Your spouse or partner might receive your passwords, online banking and digital accounts. Your children might receive your personal video messages and letters. A trusted friend might receive your social media and streaming account details. You decide who gets what — and when.

💓5

Set your check-in

Memoari's system automatically sends you a gentle check-in email — just a simple 'Are you okay?' with a one-click response. No human at Memoari reads your response — it is entirely private and automated. Only you and your chosen contacts are ever involved.

You choose how often: Weekly — for peace of mind Monthly — recommended for most people Quarterly — if you prefer less frequent check-ins If you miss a check-in, don't worry — Memoari sends a reminder and gives you a 14-day grace period to respond before anything happens. Only if you remain unresponsive after the grace period will Memoari quietly notify your chosen contacts to verify your wellbeing. Your vault remains locked until they confirm and follow the access process you set up. You can pause, dismiss or reschedule any check-in from your dashboard at any time — including when you are on holiday or travelling.

📧

Check-in email sent

A simple 'Are you okay?' email arrives in your inbox.

You click 'I'm okay'

One click confirms you are well. Nothing happens. See you next check-in.

No response after your chosen period

Memoari sends a gentle reminder email to make sure you didn't miss it.

🔔

14-day grace period begins

You have 14 days to respond before anything happens. Holiday? Travelling? No problem — just log in and dismiss.

👥

Contacts quietly notified

Only after the grace period do your chosen contacts receive a notification to verify your wellbeing.

🔐

Vault access process begins

Your contacts follow the secure access process you set up. They receive exactly what you intended — nothing more.

6

Rest easy

You have just done something most people never get around to. Your family will thank you for it.

Your vault is live. Your will is structured. Your documents are stored. Your passwords are secured. Your messages are ready. Your loved ones will receive exactly what you wanted — at exactly the right moment. What to do right now: 1. Download and print your will — sign it with two witnesses to make it legally valid 2. Scan your signed will and upload it to your Memoari document vault for safekeeping 3. Tell the person you have chosen to carry out your wishes — your executor — that your Memoari vault exists and how to access it. This is usually a trusted family member, close friend or solicitor named in your will. We recommend reviewing your vault once a year — after a birthday, a house move, a new family member, or any major life change. Memoari will remind you. Your legacy is protected. Your family is taken care of. Now go and live your life.

When you're no longer here...

The unlock process is designed to be gentle, certain, and completely in your control.

📩Step 1

A contact makes a request

One of your designated unlock contacts logs into their own Memoari account and submits an access request, confirming that you have passed.

Step 2

A waiting period begins

By default, Memoari waits 72 hours after an access request before releasing vault contents. This is separate from the 14-day check-in grace period — which applies only when you miss a scheduled check-in. During the 72-hour wait, the system sends a final message to you just in case.

Step 3

Confirmation & access granted

If you do not respond, the designated contact receives a secure, one-time access link to the specific parts of the vault you permitted them to see.

🔒Step 4

Audit trail preserved

Every access is logged with a timestamp. Only the content you explicitly assigned to each contact becomes visible — nothing more.

Security you can trust

We built Memoari the way we would want our own family's data protected.

AES-256 encryption

Every document, password, and message in your vault is encrypted using AES-256 — the same standard used by banks and governments worldwide.

Zero-knowledge passwords

When you store a password in your vault, it is encrypted on your device before being sent to our servers. We can never read your stored passwords — only you can.

Row-level security

Our database uses Supabase Row Level Security. Even if an attacker somehow gained database access, they would only see rows belonging to a single authenticated user.

Beneficiary access tokens

Unlock links are single-use, time-limited cryptographic tokens. They cannot be guessed, shared indefinitely, or reused after the session expires.

You stay in control

You can revoke any contact's access at any time. If you believe your account has been compromised, you can lock the vault instantly from any device.

Frequently asked questions

What is an executor and do I need one?

An executor is the person you name in your will to carry out your wishes after you die. They are responsible for finding your will, paying any debts, and distributing your estate to your beneficiaries. You can name any trusted adult as your executor — a spouse, adult child, close friend or solicitor. Memoari makes it easy for your executor to find everything they need in one place.

Is a Memoari will legally valid in the UK?

Yes — for England and Wales. Memoari generates a template that meets the formal requirements of the Wills Act 1837. You must sign it in front of two independent witnesses who are also present and signing. For Scotland, Northern Ireland, or complex trusts, we recommend a solicitor.

Who sends the check-in emails — a person or an automated system?

Check-in emails are sent entirely by Memoari's automated system based on the schedule you choose. No human at Memoari reads your responses or monitors your check-ins. Your responses are completely private — the system simply records that you responded and resets your timer. Only you and your chosen contacts are ever involved in the process.

What if I don't respond to a check-in by mistake?

If you miss a check-in, Memoari sends reminder emails over a 14-day grace period before any unlock process begins. A single missed check-in will never trigger an unlock — we design for human forgetfulness, holidays and busy lives.

Can my contacts access my vault without my permission?

No. Contacts can submit a request, but access is only granted after the waiting period, confirmation of circumstances, and the specific access permissions you set when alive.

What happens to my vault if Memoari closes as a company?

We maintain a data portability commitment. If the service is ever discontinued, all users receive 12 months notice and full data export options. We also maintain an escrow arrangement with a legal trustee.

Can I store passwords for cryptocurrency wallets?

Yes. The digital asset vault includes fields specifically for cryptocurrency wallets, seed phrases, and exchange account details. These are encrypted the same way as all other vault contents.

Does Memoari store my documents on its own servers?

Documents are stored using Supabase Storage, which is backed by AWS S3. They are encrypted at rest and in transit. We hold them on your behalf and release them only to authorised parties.

What if I change my mind about a beneficiary?

You can update beneficiaries, contacts, and vault contents at any time on Personal and Family plans. Changes take effect immediately. On the Free plan, core will content can be updated at no extra cost.

How does the video message feature work?

On Personal and Family plans, you can record or upload video messages and assign them to specific contacts. They are stored encrypted in your vault and delivered only when unlock conditions are met.

Can my family see my vault while I am still alive?

Only if you explicitly share access. By default, your vault is completely private. No one — including your named contacts — can see any contents until after the unlock process completes.

What is the difference between a "message" and a "document"?

Documents are files you upload (PDF, images, etc.). Messages are written or recorded notes you compose inside Memoari, with optional scheduling — e.g., to be delivered at a wedding or 18th birthday, not only at death.

Is Memoari GDPR compliant?

Yes. Memoari is operated under UK GDPR. You have the right to access, correct, export, and delete your data at any time. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Does Memoari work internationally?

The vault and messaging features work globally. The will builder currently generates templates for England & Wales and Republic of Ireland law. Additional international jurisdiction templates are on our roadmap.
